I too was in a very difficult relationship some years ago – my friends used to say my life had more goings-on than any soap opera – and I stayed in the relationship far too long (due to not wanting to let down his kids, one of whom had special needs). When I read about your incident in the kitchen I thought that that could easily have been me, and I know I wouldn’t have had your strength, energy or positivity to get through a trial let alone a prison sentence. You have my admiration for your honesty and your fabulous writing – please keep it up!

I read the line “Oooooooooh, what did you do?” and couldn’t help but hear it in the excited voice of Mark Glover?!

You’re an inspiration and a gutsy lady to share your story, knowing full well how some people react when they hear the words “I served time in prison”. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.

It was always at the back of my mind that the max for section 18 was life. I see what you mean about knives, both I and my ex were lucky it was such a small injury really, the outcome could have been very different, but he doesn’t even have a scar thankfully. A lot of “what ifs” have crossed my mind over the [ast few years.

I think you’re right about the t-shirt, I should wear it in densely populated public places like, oh I don’t know, festivals or something.

I have to say, for a section 18 conviction after a trial, 3 years is a fantastic result. And the thing is, if you use a knife to enter someone’s body, it is kind of inevitable that serious harm is going to follow, hence the intent…

But your blog is an inspiration. I have already mentioned it to some (concerned) people that I know. I am glad that everything has turned out well. An engaging writing style and a fascinating topic. Maybe you should print t-shirts that say ‘follow @squidpigeons’.

It puts my glib blog about specious reasoning to shame.
