I like grand designs, but then I have a hankering for a barn conversion somewhere away from people. As for Sarah Beeney, sahe better be getting paid a lot of cash to have people ignore her.

What you want to put 6 small bedrooms in this 'executive apartment', this seems to be a student house you muppet.

The rest of the shows can feck right off though. I'm living in my (white walls nowt cray) flat, it's a revolutionary idea!

There's too many shows on (and not just property ones) that put the emphasis on speed over quality. Everyone thinks that things should be done fast and cheap, rather than over time using the best quality materials you can afford. Sadly, you get what you pay for. I hate to think how many shocking home 'make overs' peole have done themselves? From what Miss W said above, it sounds like far too many.

I wonder how many people are still living with those hideous rooms created on Changing Rooms, or if most of them got redecorated very quickly after the cameras left!

The rise in popularity of the "look you can spend fifty quid and make your house in to a palace" TV shows has led to some truly atrocious interiors. I know, because when I was house hunting, I saw every decorating abomination known to man. Or to Mr Llewellyn-Bowen. All the homeowners were so very proud of their rag rolling/stippled artex (on walls, ON WALLS!)/stenciling/plaster sconces/mock tudor beams. Estate agents harped on about "character" and "feechurs" but all I could see was a load of badly executed tat which was often excruciating to behold. A post war, mid terrace house is NEVER going to look like a Manhattan warehouse conversion. Most people's efforts knocked a good couple of grand off the value of the house. Best thing you can ever do is paint everything white or cream and clean the place to within an inch of its life. And that you can actually do for UNDER £50.
